Beyond Appearances

This is just a brief post to remind you of the world that exists behind each of us. Even if we think we’re good at understanding it, we can’t truly know how other people feel.

There are days when I feel very selfish. I spend so much time thinking about myself—what I do, what I study, how I can improve, and so on—that I completely forget about others. We’re often afraid of looking deeply inside ourselves; we fear what we might find. And when you start feeling broken inside and seeing your world fall apart, it’s easy to look at others with indifference, as if you’re somehow different from them. You see them having fun; they seem to be everything you’ve always wanted to be: loved, wealthy, beautiful. But if you’re lucky enough to know those people better, you’ll quickly realize that their lives are often just as broken and complex as yours, no matter how perfect they may seem.

The purpose of this post is to remind you not to judge a book by its cover. Don’t hold back from truly getting to know someone, because it’s those broken pieces that make each of us unique.

Let’s try to be a little less selfish.
